Jeremy, John and I all made the trip to Peoria to run in the IVS Half Marathon and Relay. John is training for the Indy marathon, so he ran by himself.
The morning started out on the chilly side. The relay runners waited in the shade. Jeremy rounded the corner and finished up in about 54 minutes. He warned me about the hills, so I went out cautiously.
He wasn't kidding, the first hill was a downhill as soon as you left the park. It was followed by an uphill that never seemed to end.
The course went thru a cemetary, but you were too tired to be worried about ghosts.
I trudged along, taking Gatorade at every opportunity. Finally, I was on the home stretch, rounding the corner for the clock and mats. "IS THIS THE FINISH?" I yelled to the volunteers. 'Nope, about another 80 yards.' they hollered back. I was a bit spent, but gave it all I had.
John beat the both of us, and ran a strong race.
